It all started in November 2004, 1.5 years since I came to the country of Ginnesa. I had this idea to organise Russian disco some time after Halloween, which by the way I never knew about before. So I decided to do Russian New Year Party. I missed Russian music and wanted to bring all my Russian-speaking friends together to celebrate it.
The idea was welcomed by everyone, so I went ahead with my plan. No DJ-skills at that time, I was using Winamp software on a computer with a few Crossfade plugins to mix tracks. Later I got BPM Mixer, and after that I mastered Virtual DJ, which is still my personal favourite above Ableton and Traktor DJ. This sofware has pushed me to professional DJing. I bought 2 Pioneer decks and a mixer and started learning. I got rid of old decks and bought new ones a few times. Special thanks to Trinity rooms for allowing me practicing at their premises before the club opened and to Paul Webb who showed me a few tricks. It was a good experience:)
After that: local bars, pubs and clubs. I’ve already visited many cities in Ireland playing for both Russians and local folks. Together with a few DJs from Limerick (Will Rooney, DJ Pepsy) we organised a few teen parties: Teenage Scene in 2005 and DJ’S United in 2006. We went to Cork, Waterford and Galway.
In 2007, I joined UL DJ soc which was ran by students in University of Limerick, but didn’t stay there for toolong. The lads weren’t properly organised. Maybe things have changed since then.
In Limerick I’ve learnt on my mistakes. I never had any sponsors or real supporters. When it came to booking, planning, organising, hiring staff, renting equipment, drawing posters, distributing them etc. – I did it all by myself. I hope, someday someone will appreciate it.
Russian Discos – are not for making money. It happened quite a few times that I lost money or hardly covered what I put into. I didn’t stop and continued trying. It’s all for you guys! I enjoy playing, you enjoy partying and dancing:)
In the beggining of 2008, I ran the 1st gig in Galway, An Pucan. Local Russians enjoyed it a lot.
Also in that year, I stated to play for Irish. I had a few gigs in Aubars и Old Quarter, Limerick.
On 14th of June 2008, I started a new project – Elektro Nights. I already had a solid tem of DJs at that moment, who also were my friends. Now they help me almost at every gig I do: Sergey from Estonia (DJ Serj) and Martin from Lithuania (DJ Ausis). Special thanks and respect for all the work and support they did on behalf Russian Disco in Ireland.
Soon, I plan to organise a tour of Russian Disco in big cities in Ireland.
Today’s plan is like this: to rotate Russian Discos and Elektro Nights so that nobody gets bored:)
This year, a new foreign radio will be launched, hopefully. The broadcast will be also in Russian. Stay tuned, I might spin a few tracks there.
It’s only the beginning…
